Further testing showed that the red “Stop” lever was the cause, not the power switch. After turning on the saw, the red stop lever would drop too hard onto the stop button and turn the saw off. After conferring with the product manager at Dewalt, it was determined that the red stop lever spring force was too high. The units we tested was from a “manufacturing sample lot.” MSL’s are the first time the plant does a big run of the product and Dewalt then has time to refine and make adjustments, before the tool goes to production.
Chris – Great question. If you break it down a bit you can see why. The table saw uses a much smaller blade so the demand on that saw is actually quite a bit less. Also, if you make the table saw 120, you need another battery, and the conversion cable….the saw becomes VERY expensive. Just my two cents…but I’m fairly sure this is what kept it at 60v….it’s damn impressive though.

Upon unboxing, I wasn’t sure how much I cared that the built-in stand for this saw had wheels, but, boy, did I ever use them. If weather rolled in, the saw folded up and rolled to shelter in the garage. This was extremely convenient since I did my cutting in the driveway and stored the saw in the garage overnight. This maneuverability might be less useful to you if you plan to use the saw primarily in your garage where you could build or buy a semi-permanent stand rather than use the fold-up stand of this model. There is also on-board storage for the power cord and the loose parts such as the miter gauge and guards, making it completely self-contained.
The roller stand that comes with the DWE7491RS is extremely effective and easy to use. One of my biggest concerns when buying a job site table saw is mobility and ease of set-up for one person. Weighing 90 lbs, saws like these can be a serious lifting hazard for one person. So having a mobile solution that allows a single worker to set this saw up is a hugely important issue for me and many other users.
Hey all. I just got this saw upgrading from few previous model. I thought this is the best potable table saw. I assembled all and I began adjusting blade squareness. I squared on the left side of blade and thought it’s good but guess what, when I put a square on the other side of the blade it was way out!! I said myself NO WAY! Checked few more times but same result! So I put my 4foot level across the table. OMG! It was a cup towards its middle by almost 1/16″!! WTF!! I just could not believe my eyes!! I am a pro carpenter and long time Dewalt lover but now I am sooooo disappointed what I just saw. I’m gonna write Dewalt and see what they say about it.

None of your woodworking projects will go wrong if you have the best table saw for your individual needs. Hopefully, with the above table saw reviews, you now have enough info to find your right fit. Although a comparison between the DWE7480 vs DW745 shows almost the same great features, our top pick is the DW745. Although it is small for some people, it is durable, has good speeds, is powerful, and most importantly, it is budget-friendly.

Smaller, portable table saw models have direct-drive motors that can operate on 120 V power to produce 2 HP. This is enough motor power to take on thinner materials. Table saws with more powerful motors are usually stationary saws that produce between 3 to 5 HP. Table saws with stronger motors rely on a belt drive to transfer the power from the motor to the blade and these operate on 240 V.

The legs fold easily with an intuitive mechanism that feels well thought out, and the safety attachments stow away within the unit, reducing its form factor and allowing it to be tucked away in a corner when not in use. However, the unit does weigh 90 pounds, so if you’re going to be loading it in and out of a truck bed several times a day or needing to haul it up and down the stairs where the wheels can’t help you, you may want to look at a lighter job site saw that dispenses with the stand.
Regular table saws usually have powerful motors that can give you of 3 to 5 HP at 240V. Powerful benchtop saws such as these can take larger materials like wooden flooring, logs, and lumber. On the other hand, smaller and more compact table saws have direct-drive motors that run on 120 V power at 2 HP. This kind of saw will work with thinner materials like wooden panels, vinyl, laminates and thin metal sheets.
The Dewalt Cordless 8-1/4” Table Saw power switch is located on the front, lower left area of the saw and has a large red stop switch that can also be accessed easily with your knee. The power switch is electronic and the saw operator now has to push a green “on” button as opposed to pulling on the “red” power lever as was the case with older models. The power switch also has a flip over safety cover that can be secured with a pad lock. The padlock hole diameter requires a ¼” maximum diameter padlock
Typically sold for around $600, the DeWalt isn’t exactly cheap, and you can find similar portable table saws for less. DeWalt itself has several other jobsite table saws for lower prices, though they either lack a stand or feature a flimsier one. However, if you value a sturdy stand and the ability to wheel the collapsed unit around, it’s easy to justify the modest extra expense for this saw.

This stand is one of the easier stands to set up that I’ve used. To fold the stand up you simply stand the saw up on it’s end. Then the 4 legs fold down by releasing easy to use levers. It takes less than a minute to set the saw up and there are no tools required. The large wheels and comfortable height handle make rolling the saw and stand super easy.
The “Work Support / Narrow Ripping Fence” option is a nice addition and one that I have come to enjoy on Dewalt saws. When used as a support feature it helps keep boards wider than the table top from dipping down when the fence is extended. When used as a narrow rip accessory it provides an extra 2-inches of clearance between the blade and the fence. This helps keep you hand further away from the spinning blade.

The built-in stand sets this saw apart from competitors since it is actually quite stable out of the box and doesn’t require a custom stand or supports to combat vibration, which are often necessary with cheaper and lighter units. DeWalt sells a nearly identical saw with a less robust stand, and after viewing it in a big box store, I was glad to have this one.
The Skilsaw worm drive table saw is considered the first ever brass-geared drive table saw. It is designed to provide maximum power and torque with its powerful 5.0 horsepower motor. This table saw is compact and portable with a solid construction. It has a 25-inch rip capacity and 3- ½ inches depth of material. The Skilsaw worm drive table saw has a self-aligning rip fence with an on-tool storage system. But despite being able to handle tough cutting jobs it stays lightweight at only 49 pounds. You can take the Skilsaw Portable Worm Drive Table Saw anywhere at any time.

The blade is adjustable from 0-45 degrees for a variety of bevel applications. This DeWalt Table Saw has a 15-amp motor for cutting hardwood and even pressure-treated lumber. This will let you make cuts to a depth of 3- 1/8 inches at 90 degrees and 2 – ¼ inches at 45 degrees. Other important features include a coated table surface and a metal roll cage to protect the tool. This weighs 45 pounds and therefore it is easy to lift and take to your workspace or at the worksite.

The power switch is a bit finicky. I noticed this at their media event and also when using the saw. A quick press of the on button does not work and it seems that you have to press the button for a few seconds. Additionally, you need to push this button straight on and not at an angle to work. My guess is That Dewalt will work this out in time.

This Ridgid table saw is a heavy-duty table saw that comes with its own stand with wheels. It has a strong 115-amp motor at 4000 rpm. It is an updated table saw with onboard storage for your tools like miter gauge, extra blades, rip fence and other saw accessories. This is a durable table saw for different projects and can even take 4 x 4 inches in just one pass. This has a front and back clamping fence to keep your material safe and sturdy as you work.
I tested both saws and found their performance similar, though thanks to the rolling stand, I was more likely to reach for the DeWalt. If you don’t value the stand, the SKILSAW packs a lot of power in a small form and is the preferred job site saw of several local contractors I know. If you’re a weekend warrior like me, you may value the stand enough to spend the extra money on the DeWalt.

A table saw is only as good as its blades. There are a variety of saw blades with varying diameter, arbor size, number of teeth, kerf size, speed, application, and material. Most common table saws use 10 or 12” saw blades with an average number of teeth at24 to 80. And when it comes to the material used, carbide and carbon steel are the most common however you will also find very strong diamond blades.
